Rainbows & Dark Clouds

Pastel Rainbow Baby Blanket II

Making plans is no use. This has always been a belief of mine and life seems to daily side with me about that.

I had planned to knit this blanket after the summer, when the heat had cooled enough that holding needles on my hands and yarns on my lap would feel bearable. Three or four weeks seemed plenty of time to knit at a slow pace, weave in ends, block, take a couple of pictures and prettily wrap it before sending it on a trip to the recipient, as happy as a handmade blanket can be.

I had planned to make a small lace birthday token for another friend and along with a nice card. It would have only taken an afternoon or two. Design had been already chosen, drawn and printed; bobbins had been loaded.

But life insists on proving, over and over, that no matter what I plan it never turns out as wanted. Deadlines fade away when suddenly an emergency comes up and you have to run, when you spend eight days out, when you barely have time to change and have a quick snack because there are more important things to deal with.

Today I found my blanket like this, waiting for me, almost finished. Only two waves are left —I miscalculated the lenght and thought three repetitions were fine but I had to knit another one to achieve the desired size. Time is running out so I have to hurry before the baby is born. At least I am on time though. Bobbins were waiting for me too but the birthday is over and I am left wondering what is the point of sending a belated present, now bland even if well-meant.

After the storm always comes the calm. Good-bye to all the dark clouds hanging over me these last days and hello to the rainbow that is up again. I have many hours ahead of relax, yarns and cheesy lines, God willing.

Thank you very much for reading.
See you soon!

  1. Oh my Gosh! Your blanket is divine! I hope you show it to us in all its glory when you finish it :)
As for belated gifts - well it has always been the thought . The thought is the one that always matters - at least that's my motto.

Muchas gracias, Ana María. Un beso y feliz fin de semana.

  3. The sweet baby blanket looks so comfy, and I love the soft rainbow colors.
I hope the emergency was not too terrible, but I'm glad you were able to be there to help.
We are finally back home from a wedding in another state. I was supposed to cut the cake, but as I have a broken toe I found another lady to do it for me. Good thing as the ladies in the kitchen were pulling their hair out for lack of help so I hobbled myself in there to help them. Such is life.
    Have a lovely week!

    1. Thank you, Toni! We're home and in good health now, I couldn't be more grateful.
Are you OK? I hope that broken toe heals up quickly and doesn't bother you much. That wedding sounds like fun, looking forward to read your next post about it (and hopefully have a glimpse at the mints again!) ;-)
      Have a nice weekend!

      Besos.

    1. Thank you, Libby! That's exactly what I wanted to know as I'm always running late and procrastinating things —my bad. Rainbows are the best, aren't they?
      Take care xoxo

      Besote para ti también.
